Some (actually quite a few thousand) unlucky souls have been receiving mails that look like this and appear to come from us.

They don't.

WE know about the problem because we've been getting dozens of mails that look like this ...

We've checked our e-mail programmes and we are certain that they are not the source - nobody has compromised our software and we don't appear to be generating lots of sent messages that we didn't write ourselves !
Our hosting techie reports that there are ... " ... no nasties on server, so i must conclude that they are simply pretending to be from beerfordbury, which is a pain but not much we can do about it, as the FROM: field is so easy to set. Thanks for the warning anyway - was good to check .... "

We're saying sorry anyway, because we're polite .. but it really isn't our fault and there really isn't anything we can do to stop it. (I've checked this with The Authorities, for what it's worth) Thought the best thing to do was try and explain, at least.
