OK OK so it clashes with Stortfolk - but it's worth a visit when we're closed! Open mike evenings with a showcase and a distinct contemporary singer - songwriter "feel" - sort of club you'd likely find the next indie solo sensation (and that's a compliment by the way)

- a rather useful local site.

Great Bardfield - music of all sorts, including very good acoustic sets!

Waltham Abbey -Mondays at the British Legion, Sewardstone St. - weekly singarounds, guest performers approx. monthly. 01992 716121 or 714984

FESTIVAL FUN
Festivals wot we have infested more than once - here so we can find them quick.
For other events, see the directory lists below

- a really good, friendly festival. Small enough to get to know the artists, big enough to attract a very decent chorus. Very highly rated by Suggers & Spenser. Experience the fire station wall of sound at first hand .. If you've not sung in the rotunda at 1am, you've not lived ...

Cambridge Strawberry Fair Not really folk - but then it's a one-off in a lot of ways. Always held early June. EVERYONE goes. Amazing mixture of stalls & music, all FREE ! ( http://www.strawberry-fair.org.uk/ )

Trowbridge Village Pump Have had almost orgasmic Cajun experiences here. Concessions 1st Class.

2008's Dates August 15th, 16th, 17th

BISHOPS STORTFORD Town Site - all you need to know about the splendid metrollops of Stortford. V. Useful if you visit - indispensible if you live there.

Fenland Folk plus Interesting E European link. Not sure how we got on it , but thanks anyhow!

Hobgoblin - gone up in my esteem (were already fairly high) since they decided to revolt against the Licensing Bill

The Licensing Act 2003
Link is to the wording of the Act - you need to be aware of its provisions if you ORGANISE entertainment.
Key points are that licencing applies to any play or entertainment for the public or any entertainment where admission is charged, but there are exemptions (eg - Morris Dancing, Garden fetes, Churches).
Tribute is due to the many lobbyists who suceeded in geting the sillier provisions in the original Bill modified!
