More - quite exceptional - photos and something more about the play.
WHO ARE WE ?
The Harlow international Theatre Exchange came into being in 1998 to facilitate a performing visit to the Jirasec Festival in Hronov.
We took a translation of "Home Land" by Vaclav Kliment
Klicpera under the banner of Moot House Players, a long established Harlow theatre
group with a fascinating history. We also took a traditionally-based mummers
play in the name of the Beerfordbury Barrel Tappers (whose site this is). Members
came from Moot House and the BBTWTA - several of us are members of both. The
Goulburn Leider Theatre Company from new South Wales took another Klicpera play,
"On The Bridge" and an improvised piece featuring their youth theatre.
On return to the UK both groups were joined by the local company from Hronov, who presented Bottoms Dream and an extract from the Insect Play. We then presented all the shows in Harlow and Norwood.
The Leider Theatre group in a fit of enthusiasm probably encouraged by the
discovery of
i) Czech Pilsner and
ii) Real Ale
invited a return trip and the 1999 visit was arranged.
The company this year was smaller than in 1998, and we gave a serious modern play, "The Booty " and a Mummers Play as a contrast. "The Booty" examines important issues about human ~ and women's ~ rights in the context of women in a North African society.
